Men on traditional Asian, Mediterranean and Latin diets, are far more likely to maintain normal prostate health throughout their life when compared to men in typical 'western' cultures 1.
Foods from the legume family, such as red clover, chickpeas, beans and lentils, are consumed in far higher quantities in Eastern and traditional diets. These foods are rich in isoflavones, thought to be responsible for the maintenance of the good health in men from these communities 2.
As Western diets do not contain significant amounts of isoflavone-rich legumes, supplementation of the diet is an option. Changing the diet to incorporate lentils, chick peas and beans is possible, however many find eating a large amount of these foods unfavourable.
